Below is a list of BSA M24 engines, frames and complete bikes reported as being still in existence. The list is almost certainly not complete, so if you own one or know of one not on this list, please Email or phone details, including engine & frame numbers, where the bike is located, and if possible a photograph. I will add details of the bike and the country in which it is located, but no personal details of owners will appear on the website.
Those frames marked with a * are bikes, which have the original engine fitted. This is according to information provided by contributors to the website, and the information recorded in the BSA factory dispatch books. Old motorcycles often have had changes of engine and components when worn, and replacement or repair is needed. This is normal, and signs of an active life should not detract, in any way, from the pleasure gained from owning, and riding old Gold Stars.
Great enjoyment can be had from motorcycles built as replicas, which can be equally as good, if not better prepared, than an original bike. A problem can however occur if a bike built as a replica is then 'passed off', or sold as an original to an ill informed or unsuspecting buyer. In the UK For vehicle registration purposes, the frame number rather than the engine is the key identifier. Sometimes, when it has not been possible to verify bike details, and Entries marked (TBC) signifiy that information is 'to be confirmed'.
In total 266 JM24's were produced by BSA and 298 KM24's. A grand total of 564 pre-war Gold Stars. There are now over 100 complete bikes recorded on the website, and over 150 engines.
There are also 60 bikes recorded as having the original, as dispatched, matching frame and engine numbers. Up to July 2024, 22 x JM24, and 38 x KM24 Gold Stars.
I have access to the original BSA despatch records for the 1938 JM24 and the 1939 KM24 Gold Stars, so please get in touch if you want to know more about any surviving M24.
